As far back as the history goes, human beings have always wondered how the Universe was born, how it works, how its structure was formed, and where it will be heading to. Inquiries to the Universe is the most ancient science and most fundamental.
We firmly envision that major scientific revolution of 21st century will emerge from better understanding of the Universe. The right and effective avenue is by integrating seemingly disparate ideas and practices, carrying out integrated research with new approaches, and charting a new paradigm for 21st century science.
Fields, Strings & Gravity is a unique hothouse of integrated fundamental science of matter, information and forces. We bring in top-flight researchers around the world and carry out purely curiosity driven frontier research. We will address “big questions” about the Universe, its fundamental laws, its coded information, its birth, evolution and fate, and its mysterious components such as dark energy and dark matter. To achieve this, the Center will create novel research methods needed for the unified and new description of the Universe. In turn, outcomes will bring in conceptual innovations in technology, which further enables new scientific explorations. Their theoretical and experimental data will further stimulate development in uncovering fundamental laws of the Universe. This upward spiral will advance the 21st century basic science forward and place Korea the major contributor at the forefront, exciting the public at large and motivating young minds to enter science and engineering to become competent citizen of the next-generation.
